PERSONAL.

The Rev. H. Reeve was a passenger for the South by the Takapuna to-day. Dr. East arrived in Auckland from the Great Barrier by the Aupouri yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Gerald Fitzgerald, of "Wellington, leave Auckland by the Atua on 18th June on a trip to the South Sea Islands. Mr. Frank Andrews, son of Mr. J. F. Andrews, private secretary to Sir Joseph Ward, has been transferred from the Christchurch Post Office to the Auckland office. Mrs. Ebenezer McMillan, a pioneer settler of the Waipu district, who passed away on May 23 at the age of 71, emigrated from Cape Breton in 1856 in the ship Gertrude, which arrived in Auckland in December of the same year. Having- spent two years in Auckland r Mrs. McMillan and her. husband proceeded to Waipu to make a home. Her death is the third in the family during the past seven months, two sons having been accidentally killed. The shock received by the death of her sons proved to be their mother's deathblow. Deceased was highly respected by all who knew her. She is survived by her husband, five daughters, four sons, and 35 grandchildren. Captain J. G. Watson, late mate of the Pateena, has been appointed master of that vessel in place of Captain S. Kennedy, who has resumed command of the Mapoarika. Mr. M- L. Singleton, formerly on the Corinna, has joined the Pateena as acting chief officer. Mr. D. Stanley, late of the Poherua, has joineo. the Kaitangata as chicS officer. Mr. J. Mawson has hjen appointed chief officer of the Tarawera. Captain Collins will probably take command of the Tarrawera, which is about to resume running in the Dunedin-Auckland passenger service. Mr. E. D. lies has joined the Monowai as second officer. Mr. A. R. Stewart, late second officer of the Kamona, has been called to Dunedin for orders.
