In the case in which Charles Hannigan applied for a new license for the Star and Garter Hotel, at Panmure, Constable Foreman gave evidence to the effect that the hotel was the dirtiest he had ever seen in his life. Complaints had been made of Sunday, trading, and of frequent rows and disturbances. The applicant denied that, there had been any Sunday trading. The house was not in a dirty condition, he said, although he would admit that it might be cleaner. In answer "fcp Sub-Inspector Gordon, the applicant said he had not been long in th<: hotel business, and denied having countenanced Sunday trading in any form. The chairman said the committee thought that while granting the application, the matters referred to by Constable Foreman should be at once attended to.. Thgre was no proof of the statement regarding Sunday trading, but they would impress upon the applicant that he could not be too particular in the manner in which he attended to the conduct of his business. In the meantime Contable Foreman would again inspact the hotel, and report to the next quarterly meeting.
