The annual meeting of the Auckland Band of Hope Union was held last nigut in Buchauans Cafe, Karaiigahape-roaU." Mr C. G. Hill presided, tuere was a larite attendance. °
Jlhe annual report recorded with regret that, owing to apathy, the musical and elocutionary contests nad been postponed fronj time to time, and finally abandoned. It was also regretted that several" of the large churches and Sunday-schools'bad allowed one-tiwe. nourishing.' societies to languish. .iud go to sleep, U not to die, and it was suggested that a deputation be npppiu.ted to wait upon these. On the other hand, the several societies which had been idle for. some time past were now very much alive. Really good work had been accomplished all over the country It bad been decided to hold the next annual demonstration in the Choral Hall on June 3rd nud 4th.

In moving, the adoption of the report and balance-sheet, the chairman said he thought the suggestion in the report that they should visit thos« churches where bands 'of hope were not tptxaei. was a eood one. He thought temperdDce-teaching should be given in every church. If deputations could do any good, he thought they should be undertaken most decidedly. The report and. balance-sheet were unanimously adopted. '" Mr. G.G. "Hill was re-elected president for the ensuing year. Messrs. Pluinmer and McDermott were re-elected treasurer and secretary respectively, and last year*, vlcer presidents and visitors were also re-elected. SAVAGB CIJUB. The coming of age of the Auckland Sarage Club was celebrated on Saturday evening, when the opening korero of the 190s season was held. There was a very large attendance of Savages, and also a number of visitors, who were in tow,n in connection with the annual communication of the Grand Lodge of Freemason?. T.ue progcamme bore the portraits of the first president, Sir Frederick Whitaker, and the flrst secretary and founder, the late E. R. Bilborough. Beneath, these were the portraits of. the'present president. Mr. G. M. Reid, and the. secretary, Mr. F. J. Whitaker. An excellent programme was presented, including the foUoVingi'items by. the Savnse Club Orehes.ti»» "Pique DameV and "Girls of ■Gottenbe.rg." Bro. J. H. Pbillpot was conductor, Bro. A. I. Kreutzer lender, and fiiti. T. E. Midgley presided at the niano. Messrs. Aspinall. Blakeley. McElwain, and Ryan. sang. "Tattlebury Market," and "A Day"« FareweU." Mr. Hamilton Hodiws sang "Velcan'e Son*." Mr. T. Queree "Vol Song," and Mr. A. McMlnn "When Rafterty Struck the PiR." A violin solo was played by Mr. H. Bloy, and a flute solo by Mr. G. B. Poorje. The eiiphonium song. "The BnnRiven by Mr. B. W= Whittle and the orchestra, and the final chorus was "Hail Brothers of the Savase Band. An address was delivered by th«> president, to which the resnonders were Mr. John Beale for the old Savages. Mr. Hobbs for the Chrtstrhurch Snvagfs. ilr. for the Dunedin Savages, and- Mr. Griffiths for the Blenheim Savages.
