MOUNT ROSKILL.

The annual meeting of the Mt. Roskill Road Board was held last night. The members present were: Messrs. Bagley (chair- ; man). Ambury. Herd, Haslett, Worrall, and Hayr. A % dozen ratepayers attended. The aDnnal report stated that it had been the flrst consideration Of the Board to strike as low a 1 rate as wise. A rate of _d on capital value, equal to Sd on rental : value, had been struck. The roads had been greatly improved. The road work done was referred to in detail, it was hoped that during the present year arrangements would be made with the Onehunga Borough Conn-' ell and interested ratepayers which would enable the forming, metalling, and prStecting of the road connecting the district with Onehunga, from near the gas works, arouud the -beach, to Onehunga Beach-road. Ratepayers had generously assisted the Board by donations of cash and materials. Messrs. Bailey and Marks and the One-tree Hill Road Board were especially mentioned. 2714 yards of scoria had been used for roads maintenance, and the labour had been equal to one man for 571 days. A shelter shed had been erected at Greenwood's corner, and was appreciated. The Epsom and Onetree Hill Boards, Onehunga Council, the Government, and citizens had promised assistance towards a shelter shed at the Royal Oak Cross roads. The finances were healthy. The general account was on March 31 £342 in credit. The year had been commenced with a credit balance of £318. The receipts had been: Rates and outstanding rates £515, Government subsidy £226, license, £153, donations £74, total £1287. The expenditure had been: Scoria, cartage, etc. £262, labour £247, tar, shells, etc. £76, charitable aid £164. shed £66. other outgoings £126. The several' accounts were In credit, and 'the collective assets stood at £662. The .labilities were £234, which left 0 balance of £427. They had written off £136 in rates for this year, and £86 for last year. The water and gas plants were In good order. The bringing In of the water was the best business the Board had undertaken, but the whole district should have been included, as the money was got from .he Government at 3_ per cent sinking fund, which should extinguish the debt In 41 years. It would only take a rate of Jd to pay interest on the plant. The Board would for the present year probably strike a rate of gd capital value, _d special interest rate on water plant, etc., and Id gas rate, equal in all to 10d on the rental value. The district outside the water and gas'area would apparently only be rated up to _d, but interest on a proposed small loan would bring It up t to _d. The employees had worked satisfactorily. The discussion ou the rewas chiefly concerning the Greater Auckland 2proposals. as they affect the district, a subject which is dealt with under another head. The report and tbe ibalance-sheet were adoipted. . Mr. Moss moved a vote of thanks to the chairman and the members of the Board for their labours in the interest of the district. He congratulated them od the very satisfactory state of affairs. They had a good, level-headed Board. The staff, too, had worked with great assiduity. Mr. Glasgow seconded the motion, which was carried amidst applause. The chairman replied, saying that the members of the ■Board and he looked upon the district as home, and took great interest In their work. He mentioned the good work of the treasurer and the secretary. The ratepayers had honoured the Board by returningthem to office.
