They were ordered to undertake eight hours' continuous duty, day or night and to this they objected, asking in return for an increase of 25. per cent on their pay. This was refused, and shortly after the strike opened. , The Viceroy of India, Earl Minto, supports Mr. Newlands, the British-Post Office expert who was sent to".
