VANCOUVER TO AUCKLAND.

NEW STEAMSHIP ARRANGE-.

MENT.

DEN AND ALLEY LINES.

SYDNEY, April 2.

Information has been received that an arrangement has been concluded with Messrs. Charles Barrie and Son, of Dundee, 'owners of the Den line of steamers, and the Indra line, of Liverpool, to take np the Alley Company's contracts with the Canadian and New Zealand Governments.

The firms will jointly conduct a regular line of There will be a two-monthly service at present, the vessels leaving Sydney and Vancouver simultaneously, and calling at Auckland, Wellington, and other ports as inducements offer.

It is hoped that before long the trade will justify monthly steamers.

[In January last the Alley Company transferred their charter from the Bucknail lines to the Den and Indra lines. There was no suggestion at that time that the two steamship lines referred to were to take over the entire management and while tne local agent has not been advised of any change in this direction it is possible that the information cabled from Sydney is correct. The Alley line of cargo steamers was inaugurated about two years ago under contract to the Canadian and New Zealand Governments. The Bucknall steamers carried on the trade up till January last, when they retired in favour of the Den and Indra lines, the Alley Company still retaining the management. The steamers made six trips in the year and this programme has not so far been altered. With regard to monthly trips the local agent states that if the trade warrants it they will be introduced, but not otherwise. The Den of Ruthven is announced to leave Wellington : on the 15th inst. for Honolulu and Vancouver, and, if any cargo is offering at Auckland, she will call at this port en route. The Indravelli is expected to leave Vancouver about the same time for Fiji, New Zealand and Australian ports.]
