NORTHCOTE BOROUGH ELECTIONS.

MR. A. BKUCE ELECTED MAYOR. The election of a mayor and nine councillors for the newly-constituted borough of Northcote -was held yesterday, the voting being unusually heavy for a, local government poll. Of a total of 524 electors, 455 exercised their votes, while about 10 others are absentees at present, thus showing that only about 30 refrained from voting. There were two candidates for the mayoralty—Messrs. A. Bruce, formerly a member of the "Waitemata County Council, and well-known in his position as a member of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and Mr. H. Cadness, the last representative for the Northcote riding of the County. The mayoral election resulted in Mr. Bruce being returned by a majority of 39 votes. For the nine seats on the Council, 16 nominations were received. Mr. C. A. Cawkwell discharged the duties of returning officer, Mr. Seaman being deputy at Northcote.
