WAR AGAINST BUNNY.

(By Telegraph.—Own > WELLINGTON this day. * The rabbit pest in New Zealand, although, not nearly so serious as it -was a few years ago, is still a matter which the Government authorities cannot af- ' ford to treat lightly. The Chief Inspector of Stock (Mr. E. Clifton) informed a reporter to-day, whilst there had not been a very appreciable increase of. late, in the number of rabbits throughout the Dominion, it is, nevertheless, a fact, that the area infected has been extending. In the Hawke's Bay district the Rabbit Board is waging war against the pest with success, and in other parts of the Dominion the efforts of the stock; . inspectors are also proving successful. - The use of phosphorised pollard has proved invaluable in checking an increase. Mr. Clifton does not hold, out '■ any hope that the pest will ever be ab~ -j solutely exterminated, but he is confi;", dent that if the present vigilance is con-.' tinued, there will be no need to feat • that New Zealand will suffer as much from the depredation of the rabbits aait has done in the past. . *"
