CITY COUNCIL ELECTIONS.

TO-DAY'S POLLING. The election to the vacant seat on the City Council., created through the resignation of Dr. Stopford, is proceeding to-day. There are six candidates for the post.. Messrs. George Gregory, Rupert Mantell, John Patterson, George Edward Read, William Langley Rowland, and Samuel White. There is an entire absence of excitement at most of the polling booths, though polling was proceeding steadily throughout the morning. A marked briskness was noticeable at all the booths from 12 'noon to 2 o'clock, but it is not expected that the big rush will set in until after 5 o'clock. The polling booths are as follow: — New Zealand Express Company's sample rooms, Court-lane; Choral Hall, Lower Symonds-street; Federal Hall, Wellesleystreet; Foresters' Hall, Karangahaperoad; St. Benedict's Hall, East-street; and Ponsonby Hall, Jervois-road. The polling booths will close at seven o'clock.
