INTERVIEW AT FREMANTXE. THE ST. HELENS MATCH. FREMANTLE, April 1. The majority of the New Zealand football team arrived by the R.M.S. Mongolia to-day. Mr. Palmer, the manager, stated that the team were splendidly received acd entertained during their tour, but some jealousy -was shown by the amateur teams. The Northern Union rules inconvenienced the visitors. Professional Kugty was too far ahead of the amateur for any comparison to be made. Any of the jgcod New Zealand clubs could beat the teams that the All Blacks defeated. The finest players in England -were in the j Northern Union. Before sailing for ihomt. the New Zealanders -will give a -New South Wales team some hints on the rules, that will assist any team going to 'England. The matches played ■were strenuous, and the grounds were in very bad condition. He denied the allegations of undue rough play. The Northern Union had expressed its appreciation of the results of the tour. SYDNEY. April 1. According to mail advices, the New Zealanders brought their tour to a close by achieving a brilliant victory over St. Helens. The visitors showed splendid form, and they had to play against a gale of wind in the first half, and were compelled to act for the most part on the defensive, and at half-time had a deficit of 10 points against them. The whole aspect was changed with the~ second spell by accurate passing and straight running The colonial backs were much too clever for the opposition, and tries were scored by W. Tyler, Baskerville, Wynyard (2), and Tyne. Three goals were kicked by Messenger.
