NO-LICENSE COUNCIL.

The monthly meeting of the Auckland Provincial No-License Council was held last evening, and was attended by the officers of the Council and representatives from the following electorates: — Eden. Manakau. Auckland <_ity, Kaipara, Ohinemuri, Parnell, Grey Lynn, and Waitemata. Canon Haselden, the actingpresident of the Council, occupied the chair. A considerable amount of routine business was transacted, after which the following resolutions were unanimously carried: —

1. That this council views with satisfac tion the official declaration signed by the Mayor and 100 professional men of Invercargill testifying to the success of no-license in that city, which plainly indicates that Invercargilfs experiment may be safely followed by other electorates in the Dominion, and the council expresses the belief that the official statement will effectively contradict, if not stop, the false reports which are being circulated by interested persons to discredit the no-llcense movement. - 2. That thlj council places on record its appreciation of the action of the Minister for Justice in upholding the police in the exercise of their duties as inspectors under th e Licensing Act. and it emphatically protests against the attempt made by the licensed victuallers to intimidate this important branch of the public service. The council regrets that there is ample evidence in support of the police report that drinking amongst women is on the increase, which fact constitutes a menace to the public welfare. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CLIIUS-CHL-tCH, this day. A ten-days' canvassing campaign by the Christehurch Prohibition League formally commences to-morrow. The object 'is to raise £1500 as a fighting fund for the no-license 190S polls. £120 is already paid or promised.
