CITY COUNCIL PICNIC.
The antm-l picnic of the Auckland City Council employees was. held on Saturday, March 28, 1908, at Pine Island, there being close on 10GO persons present, inc—ding Councillors Glover and Somers, Messrs. W. Bush (City Engineer), J. Cadaw (waterworks engineer), J. s. Brigham (city treasurer. A very enjoyable day was spent, the following programme being run:—Boy race: Bater 1. Kyle 2. 100 yds Handicap: McDonald 1, Mathewson 2. 75yds Back Running: Harkins 1, Glover 2. 75yds Old Men's: Gill 1, "Williams 2. Threelegged Race: McCabe and McCarthy. 50yds Married Ladies: Mrs. Ede 1, Mrs. Brown 2, Mrs. Stringer 3. Hop, Step, and Jump: McDonald L Mathewson 2. 100 yds Married Men: Mathewson 1, Glover 2. Putting 16lb Shot: Daley (42ft Sin) 1, McCabe (41ft Sin) 2. 75yds Single Ladies: Vera Malcolm 1. A. Bater 2. 50yds Human Wheelbarrow Race: McCornish and McCabe. 200yrts Handicap: E. Smerdon 1. Harkins 2. 50yds Egg and Spoon Race: Mrs. Spary 1, Mrs. Thompson 2. 50yds Sack Race: Page 1. Glover 2. 75yds Officials' Race: J. S. Brigham 1. A. Sexton 2. 100 yds Open: Harrison 1, Moore 2. 75yds for ladies, for a special prize, presented by Mr. A. E. Glover, was won by Miss Bater.
