In Auckland the game received additional impetus by the local representatives securing the honour of being the first holders of the shield. With reference to the game the members of this association will have noted, a very distinct improvement in the play amongst the local players, though there is yet a good deal of room for improvement in combined play, especially in representative matches. ,T>_ring the past season the members of this association, though in number only 12, controlled 74 matches, including four representative, this being very satisfactory.** The report was adopted. Mr F. H. Burbush was elected president, Mr T. K. Wright hon. secretary, and Mr E. E. Madden chairman. The annual subscription was raised to 2/6. ' A committee was appointed to draw up a set of rules for the Referees' Association. It was decided that the Hockey Association be asked to allow a representative of this association to be present at the meetings of the executive to safeguard the referees' interests, and to be able to advise them in any disputes between players and referees.
