EXCITING RACECOURSE INCIDENT.
An extraordinary occurrence is reported to have occurred during a race at the Manaia Raciny Club's •ratuering. One horse held a short lead of another, and in the run homo presented every appearance of winniiifr. when th« rider of the lo&iiifi horse is alleged to have stood up in the stirrups and dealt the other jockey a heavy Ir.ow on lie head with the butt end of his whip, which was mounted with a braes knob. The injured man stuck to his mount, and won the race, though a profuse outpouring ot blood was almost blinding him. On dismounting he was found to have two gashes in his head just above the temple. The stewards, it is stated, wished to disqualify the offender for three years, but at the request of the other jockey they deUirn-il him only for the remainder of tin; meeting.
