THE BUTTER MARKET.

BUYING BACK SHIPMENTS IN LONDON. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. There is still a stringency in the butter market. "The Evening Post" states that large shipments of local butter have been bought in London, and are on their way back to New Zealand. The local requirements will be forty thousand boxes, and of this quantity only twentyfive thousand boxes are in store, and only ten thousand of this total are owned by New Zealanders. AN UNFOUNDED REPORT. CJJy Telegraph.—Press Association.) PALMERSTON NORTH, this day. The head office of the New Zealand Fanners' Union indignantly denies a statement made by the Masterton correspondent of the "Dominion" that the union had recalled from Home 1700 boxes of butter to meet a shortage in New Zealand, and the further statements that the union is not making enough butter for local consumption, and that 20 creameries will close down in the course of the next two weeks. ~ .

Mr. Bendall, secretary of the union, states that there is absolutely no truth whatever in the statement. The present output is still sufficient for the requirements, and recent rains have checked the decrease in the milk supply. No creameries will be closed down so long as there is sufficient milk to keep them going, and he anticipates the present rains will have the effect of keeping the creameries occupied for a longer period than was anticipated a month ago. Mr. Bendall also says that a statement by the "Dominion" that several creameries were sending milk to Wellington at 8d a gallon does not apply to the Farmers' Union creameries.
