'LADY PLUNKET NURSES."
TO SAVE THE BABIES. WELLINGTON, Monday. There was a large gathering of ladies and j others, including the Hon. George iEowlds, (Minister for Health), Dr. Mason (Chief Health' Officer), the Hon. Dr. Collins, M___.C_, and other representatives of the medical profession, at the Town Hall this afternoon. The gathering was held under tie auspices of the Society for the Protection of Women and Children, and was held to further the movement inaugurated by Dr. Truby King for the protection of infant life. It was decided to call the nurses employed by the Wellington Society " Lady Plunket nurses," in honour of Her Excellency Lady Plunket, who is taking such a keen interest and active part in furthering the objects of the Society. Lady Plunket addressed the meeting, urging the need for the improved feeding of infants, and better attention to mothers. Drs. Mason, Colins, Young, and the Hon. Geo. Fowlds also delivered addresses, the. doctors pointing out what a large proportion of infantile mortality is preventable. The need for a purer milk supply was emphasised by most of the speakers.
