CABLE. (Received 9.3S a.m.) MELBOURNE, this day. No settlement has vet been reached in connection witli the taking over of the Eastern Extension Tasmanian cable by the Federal Government. The company asks £39.000 for the cable buildings and balance of subsidy . In view of the possibility of the negotiations breaking down the Government has obtained an estimate of the cost of the survey of two new cables. The survey will cost about f 120 per day, while it is understood that the cables "cost about £70,000. HEAT WAVE IN SOUTH AUSTRALIA. (Received 9.33 a.m.) ADELAIDE, this day. Extremely hot weather prevails in the State. The" temperature in the city yesterday was IoS in the shade.
