RACING .FIXTURES. I Oct 30, 31 — Gore -Spring Meeting. I Nov. 2, 4, o, 9 — N.Z. Cup Meeting. I Not. 8, 9 — Winton J.C. Annual — " Nor. 9, 13, 16 — A.R.C. Spring Nov. 2 — Waihi Hack Spring Not. 20, 23; — Otahuhu Trotting Spring, ANSWERS. TO CORRESPONDENTS. . N.Z.—ln the absence of any stipulation, B is certainly entitled to the amount saved. The Malua—Wanda mare. Lady Marion, has foaled a filly to Monoform. Mr W. Gall's mare, by Muskapeer—Ladybird, has foaled a filly to Soult. C. Weal has had an addition to his string in the shape of a full sister to Lady Lanta. Mr B. H. McKenzie's mare Daffodil, by Musketry—Suniiingdale, has foaled a colt to Wairiki. . . The .scratchings of Don Cossack and Waiotahi from the Great Northern Guineas were posted yesterday. The New Zealand Cup favourite, Elevation, Is reported to have done very well since his arrival at Riccartou. Kirsty, which, won a double at the recent Poverty Bay meeting, was well supported in Auckland for each event. The Hotchkiss—Cressy filly in F. Macmanemin's charge at Ellerslie, has had the name of Cresson claimed for her. . Mr Geo. 3»torse has been appointed by the I Takapuna Jockey Club to frame the handicaps for their spring meeting. I Mr J. Wren is giving a 2000sovs stake I for horses and galloways, over five and a j half furlongs, to be run on November 6th. I The Cyrenian horse Cambrian has been allowed to drop out of his engagements on the opening day of the A.R.C. Spring Meeting. The Soult gelding Gay Paris is a noticeable withdrawal from the Flying Handicap at'the A.R.C. Spring Meeting, in which he was weighted at 7.3. I have to acknowledge with thanks rei ceipt of the Manawatu Racing Club's pro- | gramme.for the forthcoming season, which is kindly forwarded by Mr J. M. Johnston, ■ secretary. On Thursday last at Ellerslie, Ranana, Innislcilien, and Sol were sent a round of the schooling hurdles. The trio fenced in great style. ■ Gay Dawn, which figures amongst the acceptors in the Hunt Clnb events, hails from the West Coast, and will be ridden in his engagements by Mr H. C. Tonks. The Soult mare Sweet Alice seems to be quietening down gradually under F. Hill's tuition. The mare is ridden in her work by a son of her trainer, and she strides along quietly under his guidance. The name of Dominion having been disallowed for the brown horse by Soult, from an Orestes mare, which raced at Papakura I a fortnight ago. the name of Strathmoira . has been claimed for him. The Menschikoit gelding Dogger Bank is making a good recovery from the mishap which bcfel him a week or so'ago, and he was treated to light exercise on Thursday morning last. Messrs Dnder Bros.' Queen Anne, by St. Leger—Anna, and a mare by Cuirassier— iuita, have both foaled fillies to Wairiki, m<l visit the son of Soult again this season. At Cambria Park. Lute, by Sir Lancelot —Lyrebird, has foaled a colt, and Mr W. McLaughlin's mare, by Castor—Bessemer, a illy, both to Obllgado. The mishap to Shrapnel, although report;d not to be very serious, was sufficient to siuse his withdrawal from the Birthday Handicap on the opening day of the A.R.C. Spring Meeting. The two-year-old gelding Rarata, by Eton —Peace, is reported to be showing slight signs of shni soreness, and it has been leemed advisable to allow him to drop out >f his engagement in the A.R.C. Welcome Stakes. The Auckland horse Stromness failed to show up prominently in any of his engagements at the Poverty Bay meeting. The telegraphed accounts of the meeting are very meagre, but as ho was taken to Gisborne, it has to be presumed that he was i starter at the gathering. The acceptances received by Mr. J. F. Hartland last evening for the opening day of the A.R.C. Spring Meeting are highly satisfactory, and at present everything augurs well for a successful day's racing. The Hobson Handicap, a hack event, claims the biggest acceptance, 17 having paid up for that event. In framing the weights for the Onetranga Steeplechase, Mr. Morse has left nothing to chance with Haydn, and in awarding the son of Sou-Wester ll_lo, he has made him pay for his Sydney victory. Both in the same form as in the winter, it is hard to see what chance Haydn can have with Kiatere. . Nothing fresh has transpired in connection with the New Zealand Cup. which is run for oh Saturday, November 2; but during next week the reports of the doings of the various candidates on the tracks should be interesting. Elevation still holds his r position as favourite, with Master Delaval nest In demand. Mr T. H Lowry's colours are to be eeen out at the A.R.C. spring meeting, and private advices received state F. Davis, his private trainer, leaves Napier for Auckland on Tuesday next, with DownfaU, Chantreuse, and Loftus. The Cyrenian gelding Dan Leno, which is owned by Mr M. Johnson, will also be brought to Auckland with Mr Lowry's team. At a sale of horses in Perth this month, to close the estate of the late Mr T. F. Fenton, the following were among the lots that changed hands:—Golden Belt, by San Francisco—Campania, 120gB; GCiTisori, by Phoebus Apollo—Vivandiere, lOOgs; Haurakl, by Phoebus Apollo—Musket Maid 230 gs; and Hildebrand, by Phoebus Apollo— Hilda, 2Ssgs. As yearlings, Golden Belt cost 12Ogs, Garrison 160gs, Hauraki 310es and Hildebrand 340gs. In Wednesday's Issue I referred to the fact that various opinions were expressed about Apologue's running in the Caulfleld Cup, and. quoted a good judge, who said that the race was thrown in the gutter. Evidently, from the Press Association cablegram received from Melbourne, the popular idea is that the Auckland horse should have won the event, and it is now rumoured that Mr. Cleland will probably ask-for an inquiry. If half one hears is true, Mr. Cleland was unlucky in losing the Caulfleld Cup, and in the Interests of all concerned, it would be as well if an inquiry were^held. The first of Treadmill's stock ■to race proved a winner, the filly Discipline, by Treadmill—Madowla, winning the Stepniak Stakes at the recent North Otago J.C. spring meeting. Discipline was reported to be a tut backward in condition, but nevertheless outstayed the opposition, eventually winning by a neck in 50s. Madowla, dam of Discipline, must be classed as oue of the most successful brood maree yet seen in New Zealand; and is by Trenton, from the imported mare Azalea, by GallUird, a son of ■ Galopln.. . So far Madowla's progeny. are Quarryman, King's Guest, Glenowlet, Kirriemuir, Glenculloch, and Discipline.. / The recent action of the police in regard to the limiting of racing* clubs to the use of three machines only, will cause some little inconvenience until the Southern system is installed. It is understood that the Metropolitan Club • have placed an order for one of the large silent machines, but that it will not be available until the summer meetIng. In the meantime one •of the smaller machines will be used, and although pro-bably-matters may not run smoothly-for a beginning, still' it is only a matter of educating Investors to the system. In all probability the Auckland Racing Club will ciose tie.machine :a stated time before the start of each race :

.Sir George Clifford's colt Glenculloch is reported to be showing signs of lameness, and a ..writer .in. the Canterbury "Times," who- is usually wel informed In regard to E. Cutts's horsies, says: "It Is much to be regretted that Sir George Clifford's fine colt Glenculloch is showing weakness In one of his knees, for it would have "befen more satisfactory had all the Derby representatives now engaged come to the post sound and well. His trainer (Cutts) does not an- , ; ticipate any serious results, and is quite hopeful of getting the son of Clanranald to the post for his engagements. Certainly, the--infirmity does not appear to affect his galloping to any appreciable extent up to the present, as was evinced by the performance he registered over ten furlongs on Saturday, and if it does not grow worse | there Is no doubt that Glenculloch's chance will have to be treated with respect." The statement that the stewards of the Wanganui Jockey Club had exonerated Jenkins from the charges made against him over the recent Maxton meeting, although coming from a usuaUy well Informed source, it appears were a bit premature. A Press Association wire received on Thursday states that the Southern club, after an exhaustive inquiry, decided to cancel Jenkins' license. It is regrettable to see a rider of Jenkins' ability in such a position, and it seems unaccountable that he should have acted as he is alleged to have done. Jenkins for some time past has been recognised as one of the best' horsemen' in the Dominion, and the cancelling of his l*--_nse Is a serious matter to . him. However, the authorities of the various clubs have duties to perform, and although their tasks are at times most unpleasant, still in the best interests of racing no distinction should be made, be the offender great or small. In taking the stand they have done with a rider of Jenkins' reputation, the Wanganui Club deserve the support of all followers of i the Sport of Klnga. WAIHI HACK RACING CLUB'S SPRING MEETING. Mr. F. A CAULFIELD INQUIRX. CLAIM FOR APOLOGUE. (By Telegraph.—Press. Association.) MELBOURNE, October 25. There rs much gossip concerning the running of Apologue in the Caulfield Cup. The popular idea is that the New Zealand horse should' have won that event. it is now rumoured that his owner, Mr. K. Cleland, will probably ask. the stewards of the V.A.T.C. to hold an inquiry. It Is also stated to be possible that T.: Clayton will ride Apologue in the Melbourne Cup. Tartan and Mountain King are hardening in. Jh'e Meft'oniße' £i{ bet—as.
