THE GOLDFIELDS.
TALISMAN CONSOLIDATED. j (By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) WAIHI, this day. I Operations at- the Talisman Consolidated Mine continue to be attended I with considerable success, and lower •levels are opening up splendidly. A very I important feature of the work south at No. 12 level, is that it is 150 ft. in advance of No. 13 level, and still penetrating a lode measuring from 12ft. to 14ft. in thickness, worth about £ 9 per ton. main lode, and that known as the eastern branch converge towards each other, and have now formed into one master vein on their south trend. The total length of the ore developed at tbis No. 12 level south of No. 4 crosscut is 455 ft. It will be seen that the ore area is extensive, and with ore of good value still in the face, it is of paramount importance to shareholders, for it is quite possible that these good values will extend right into the Dubbo section. No. 13 j level has been temporarily suspended owing to the want of ventilation, and for the purpose of securing this, two rises J are now in progress to connect with No. 12 level. A distance of lsoft. has been j risen, and tbe lode is now 4ft. to sft. wide, carrying payable values. A winze is being sunk from No; 12 level to meet the uprises. This important connection should be effected this ensuing month, when the No. 13 level drift will be vigorously pushed ahead. ' HAURA—I FREEHOLD. (By Teleseraph.—Own Correspt—dent.) COROMAIND_L, Friday. Hunter and -party tributes in the Hauraki Freeholds mine are securing very good general ore in their section. MINE MANAGERS' REPORTS. Royal Oak. —The rise in A level is now up 16ft. The quartz is improving in appearance, and, in breaking down this week, we could see colours and dabs of gold in the stone. Old Kapanga. —Regan and party started to sink on the new cross reef below the water level, and have been successful in obtaining payable ore. lam afraid that, in the near future, the water, will best them. Martin and party are again crushing a parcel of ore which I believe will pay fully well. Many are inquiring after tributes when the water is lowered. Waihi Extended.—The No. 4 level has been driven 14ft., making 60ft. past No. 1 winze. The ground has been hard and bad for starting, but shows signs of improvement again. This hard bar has caused the reef to pinch to about ism., although the whole of the face is a mixture Of quartz and country. The stone shows a little more mineral as we get ahead, but is not of a payable appearance yet. Sinking has been practically at a standstill for the week. I have had the men putting In a more permanent dam to keep back the water. This is nearly completed, and I expect to be On the bottom again to-morrow.
