HOCKEY.

I am indebted to a leading player for the following table of the ladies' matches. As will be seen, the championship has been won by the Moana team, which for the past two seasons have acted as nili-ners-up. Their record is a fine one. They have not suffered defeat in any match, and, in all. they scored nineteen points out of a possible twenty, which speaks well for the consistent manner in which the team trained. £•3 *"* "E "a," - ---*2 3 5 « a a ess 3 ,5— -r o v c c< —re Si 5= j a 3 _ - Moana 10 9 0 1 33 3 19 _opana 10 6 2 2 19 6 14 Ladies' College 10 4 3 3 15 13 li Whaia-a-Mau.. 10 3 4 3 13 10 9 Kopana 11.... 10 2 S 0 9 23 4 Rawhiti 10 1 S 1 11 41 3 The ladies' competitions have this season created more interest —an in former years, sis teams competing as against four oi last year in the senior grade. Te Huia have dropped out. but three new teams (Whaia-a-Mua. K.opana IL, and Ra whiti) have entered the field, and their performances against the older teams have been most satisfactory. As next season the three leading teams will suffer the loss of the majority of their players, the younger teams, with the experience gained this season, should make a close fight for the leading honours. Many promising players figure in the new teams. Last Saturday's competitions were fought out under the most adverse weather conditions, and good exhibitions of hockey were impossible. Miss C. Clark, the crack centre-forward of the Moana team, holds this season the record among tbe ladies for goal-scoring, having in club matches notched in all twenty goals. The match between College Rifles and United for the junior championship honours ended in an easy win for the former by sis goals to two. Throughout the game the result was never in doubt. College Rifles playing the long passing game, | and giving their opponents but few chances. |
