ROWING.
St. George's Rowing Club have fixed Saturday, November 2nd, for the holding of their first "At Home/ when trial fours •will be rowed, and, in addition, s"me swimming events will be included in the programme. Their plant has been thoroughly overhauled, and everything is now in re&diness for a successful opening. The club has gained several new members, including some promising men. The committee have under consideration the purchase of a new racer. Auckland Rawing Club hold their first trial fours of the season on Saturday next when the president's trophies will be rowed for. The executive of the Auckland Rowing Association hare decided to formally open the 1907-S season on Saturday, Oct. 18th. The function to take the form of mixed trial fours for trophies donated by Mr. X. Keir. The Waitemata Boating Hub's shed has been fixed upon for the rendezvous, and cliibs are asked to assemble there at 2 p.m., the first race to be rowed at 2.30 p.m. The following officers have been appointed for the day: Marshal: Mr. B. t. Finn; starter and umpire, Mr. >*. Wade; judge. Dr. Stuart B. Reid. Afternoon tea will be provided. The Whangarei Rowing Club hare applied to the A.E.A. I'ot permission, to hold their annual regatta on New Year's Day. During the past year considerable impetus lias been given to pair-oared and double sculling rowing. Several trophies are on the A.R.A. list for this cla-ss of rowing, an-.i the competition will be keen. Mr. W. W. Benjamin has been appointed to represent the Auckland Eow- ' ing Association a.t meetings of the Ponsonby Regatta Committee. With a view to obvinting any possible misunderstanding, the local Association? are compiling a pamphlet, giving full particulars with reference to regattas held under tfee K.Z.A.R.A. rules. The following appointments for the forthcoming seasons have been made by the A.R.A.: Permanent committee, Messrs T. D. Bell and G. R. Hogan; permanent starter and umpire. Mr. N. Wade; permanent judge, ilr. B. S. Finn. Hawkes Bay will be the scene of the curing It) votes against 7 for Wanganui, and 1 to Pioton. I understand that no less than £200 is to be offered in prize money. The function will probably eventuate in March next, during carnival ■week.
