(Erom Our Own Correspondent.) CAMBRIDGE, Thursday. A special meeting ot the Cambridge Borough Council was heLd yesterday to. considei the tenders for improvements to the saleyards and act thereon. Tne t'ollGwi__ tenders were received: P. M. La '1 robe £263, F. A. Marcroft £254. The Mayor moved that the latter be accepted.—Cr. Hartly asked if they had authority to call for tenders for the work.—The Mayor said tenders were invited in anticipation of the loan being carried, and if that was not done they would have to strike a rate. — The motion was seconded by Cr. Ferguson. —Cr. Wilkinson thought it was wrong to spend r he money before the poll re the loan was taken. He did not think It would be legal to do so.—The motion was then put and carried, Crs. Wilkinson and Hartly having their protests recorded. Eleven lots of property situated in the Borough of Cambridge were offered by auction yesterday afternoon by Mr. Davis, of Hamilton. Only one property changed hands, namely, one acre, on th. outskirts of the borough, and that made £'Jfi, being purchased by the owner of the adjoining allotment. Three acres in Cambridge West were sold to Mr. B. Morse at £53.

The second annuai social iv connection with the Waikato Farmers' Club was held in the Alexandra Hall last evening. It was well attended, and was a most pronounced success. The president of the club, Mr. Martin Butler, in a terse address, urged the farmers to take more interest In the club. He reminded them that they were now in prosperous times, but a time of adversity might come along:, when they would find the club of much practical use. He outlined a very attractive programme for the ensuing year, consisting of debates, reading of papers on subjects of Interest to farmers, etc. The other speakers were Messrs. Norman Macky and J. s. Fisa'er, as representing the younger members of the club, and they both acquitted themselves well, giving many and various reasons why the members should take more interest in their clnb. A short musical programme was gone through. Those who song were Madame Isherwood, Miss Watt, and Mr. T. Atkinson; Miss Fisher "aye a piano solo: and the Cambridge Orchestra, under their new conductor. Mr. Gibb. rendered a couple of selections very nicely
