PRESBYTERIAN CITY MISSION.

The following report will be submitted to the annual meeting of the Presbyterian City Mission this . evening:— Early in this year your committee drew up the customary circular letter. Five thousand of these were printed, and nearly all circulated in the Auckland district. These have been the means of doing much good; not only do they induce financial help, but they bring gifts of food and clothing, which is most desired, especially in the inclement season of the year. A regular system of communication has been kept up between all the churches and home mission stations of the Auckland province, iour committee are hopeful that by diligence and perseverance all will be brought into line to recognise the importance of our Mission; and will eventually become contributing factors. In our circular letter your committee announced the following: "The committee, while realising the very important good work that is being done by our missioner (Mr. McPherson), have to admit that there are many cases a man cannot deal with, because they come within the sphere of a woman's work. Now, the committee has decided to make a special effort to raise an extra £50, when we shall be abie to have a deaconess at work all this next year. Your committee are pleased to report that this aim has been reached, ana something like £60 now stands to the credit of this new fund. Your committee are of the unanimous opinion that now is the opportune time for making such appointment, and to facilitate matters to accomplish this end, a new rule has beeh drawn up, to be inserted in the Mission's code of rules, whereby your ccmmittee can, and are hereby empowered at any time to give Mr. McPheison such help as the growing demands oi the "Mission require." Xt is gra'ifying to know, after meeting all claims, a small balnce of 16/5 stands to the credit. of the Mission. This is particularly gratifying when we know that the Mission depends entirely on voluntary contributions. Your committo' are indebted to the members of the different Endeavour Societies throughout the city, who have given our missioner assistance, and to the many contributing friends who supply our missioner with money and goods for the poor, but who ■do not wish their names known or published. Finalh", your committee express th»"r thar.ks and appreciation to the as-si-tan.e and outside help of those connected with other denominations. Help, in the way of food, .clothing, and money, has been extended during the past year to over 200 children, whilst food, clothing, and shelter have been given to over 50 adults (principally unfortunates in city life). Good services have also been rendered to quite a number of men coming fron. the gumfields. A large number of discharged criminals have likewise been helped. Our missioner has charge of the asylum services, and visits this institution, as well as the Mount Eden Gaoi, every week. The Costley and Veterans' Homes are visited regularly, and services held in the same; also the ships ir port are visited, and, in eon-jur-ction with Mr. Brakenrig, our missioner has charge of the Sailors' Home services on certain nights. In conclusion, your committee take this opportunity of expressing their appreciation and confidence in their missioner (Mr. McPherson), who has so ably, energetically, and devotedly completed twenty-one years of faithful active service to this Mission."
