OTAHUHU ITEMS.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

The ordinary meeting of the Otahnhu Road Board was held in the Board's Office on Thursday night, -when there -were present: Mr J. Todd (chairman), Messrs J. Brady, F. Lippiatt, and A. Sturges, and the clerk CMr E. 'West).

The chairman reported that the Otabuhu side of the Tamaki bridge was fairly safe, and that the East Tamaki Road-Board had the Tamaki side under, some halfdozen men being employed there- Up to the present there has been no occasion to close the bridge.

Mr Sturges proposed that the Board should take over Clevedon-road, and that Mr J. Hoze should deposit the sum - of £100 as a guarantee that he would finish the road to the Board's approval. This, after discussion, was agreed to.

A letter was received from Messrs Masse.v and Lang, re the grant for the Stationroad repairs, saying that it had been brought under the notice of the authorities, and the Public Works Department wrote re grant of £1 for £1 subsidy for repairing' the road. At present they disclaimed liability, but promised to make inquiries and to give the matter their attention, for they considered- that the road had given way. The Catholic Church committee • requested that the footpath be continued from the church to the corner of St. Joseph's school, and the Board decided to look into the matter. The Board decided to put in" a drain in. Empire-lane, as :_r T. W. Phillips had promised to pay half of cost of the pipes. It was reported that the improvements at the recreation reserve had been carried out, and the Board decided to pay the contractor. While Mr Frank Pitcheli, of the Mounted Bines, was proceeding along the Main South-road to a drill meeting at Otahuhn, his horse stumbled, and threw him violently on the stones. He was taken' into a neighbouring house, and afterwards removed home on a stretcher. He was promptly attended by Dr. Bamage (locom tenons for Dr. Bewes), bnt on inquiry late last night it was difficult to tell what iliarm had been done.
