ONEHUNGA NEWS.

The weekly meeting of the ■ Onehunga Catholic Young Men's Club was held last evening, when Father Mahoney preeided over a large attendance. MiKenny, of the Onehunga High School, gave an interesting reading from Dickens' works, and at the close was accorded a hearty vote of •fcha/nk-a.

A painful accident happened at Onehunga last evening to the Rev. D. D. Scott, Presbyterian minister. Dr. Scott and a number of friends were just starting an open-air service at the corner of Queen and Church-streets, when a water gas lamp, which was held by Mr. Scott, suddenly exploded, severely cutting and scalding his hands. The injuries wert; attended to by Mr. Gilknan, after which the reverend gentleman was taken to his home.

At the Onehunga Police Court this morning, before Messrs. G. J. Browne and J. Stoupe, J.P.\s, an elderly man named William Ann ear, alias Fisher, who saluted the bench in military style, was charged with vagrancy. Sergt. Twomey explained that the accused had a long list of convictions against him, and was continually before i»e Court. Annear told a pitiful tale, to the effect that he had employment to go to, and .pleaded for another chance, and the presiding justices decided to give him aai opportunity to keep his promise, and convicted him, and ordered him to come ud for sentence when called upon.

A large and representative meeting of the business men of Onehunga was held in Holmes' Hall, Onehunga, last evening to discuss the advisability of foraang a Chamber of Commerce at Onehunga, Mr. Holmes, convener, presided, and, in stating the object o.f the meeting, said he considered that the time had arrived for the formation of a Chamber of Commerce at Onehunga." Such a body would have considerable weight in dealing with subjects of local interest, and would be quite free from political bias. Mr. C. J. BehnauerJJien moved, and it was seconded by Captain Biehardson, and unanimously decided, that in the opinion of this meeting, it is desirable that a local Chamber of Commerce be formed, and, on the motion of Mr. R. T. Michaels, it ■was decided that the proposed Chamber be known as the Manukau Chamber of Commerce, and to embrace representative of- contjgno-Tis districts. After diseossion, a committee, consisting of Messrs. Holmes, Michaels, Bassett, Schnauer, Baddiley, and Allsworth, was formed to formulate rules, etc., and arrange date for next meeting.
