SVHAKF LABOURERS' CONFERENCE.

WELLINGTON, this day. The Wharf Labourers' Conference decided to-day to urge the Government to institute quarterly inspection of ships and wharf gear, and, further, to urge the Government to amend the Harbours Act in the direction of providing buildings for the exclusive use of men employed at each port, with hot and cold geater baths and lockers.

FTEE AT DUNEDIN.

DUNEDIN, this day. A fire in itr. C. J. Ross's drapery establishment in Princess-street, near the Octagon, did damage to the extent of t£2oo in stock and of £150 to the shop. Both were insured.
