CAUGHT IN A CYCLONE

SCHOONER YSABEL DAMAGED.

Advice received by the steamer Atua, which arrived at Auckland from the Islands to-day, is to the effect that the local three-masted schooner Ysabel (Captain W. Ross) encountered the cyclone which caused the Navua to return to port, and sustained damage more or less serious. The Ysabel left Auckland on June 22 last, and, when about six days out, encountered terrifio w«ather. The sails were clewed, and it was soon apparent that the little vessel was at the capricious mercy of the storm, which was of a cyclonic character, and lasted for several days. Tha Ysabel was hove to, and, to increase the buoyancy of the vessel, Captain Ross had the whole of the deck cargo, consisting of about 5000 ft. of sawn timber, jettisoned. Huge seas broke all round the vessel, and a considerable quantity of water found its way on deck, where everything movable was picked up by the "seas and carried overboard, while the bulworks suffered considerably, some ten feet being torn bodily away. After the storm subsided, the Ysabel was put on her course, and reached Nukualofa, in the Friendly group, on July 6. The Ysabel %vas still at Nukualofa when the Atua called on the 13tt inst.
