FRENCH CLUB

There was a good attendance at a meeting of the French Club, held in St. Paul's schoolroom last night. M. Boeufve (the French Consul) presided. -'La Manucure," an interesting little comedy, occupied the first part of the programme. The remainder of the evening was spent in an entertaining competition, Iv which a number of members went through the business of shopping in French. Prizes were presented by M. Boeufve and Mrs Arthur Myers for a lady and gentleman respectively, and were won by Mrs Neligp.n and Dr. Bamford.

L-IBEEAL AND LABOUR FEDERA TION.

The annual meeting of the Parnell branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation of New Zealand was held last evening, Mr J. R. Lundon (president) occupying the chair. ■ There was a good attendance of members.

Annual Report.—The annual report, which was adopted, made reference to the separation of several members from tlie branch, and the subsequent formation by them of a sub-brauhc at Remuera. It was satisfactory to note that the objection of the parent body in the electorate to the official recognition of the sub-branch by the general secretary until tije rules and regulations had been strictly complied with had been upheld. Mention was also made In the report of the good work dene by Mr P. J. Nerheny at the Wellington conference. The chairman, in his inaugural address, had stated that the time had arrived for the Pa-rnell branch to participate in local municipal politics, and it was satisfactory to see that, in realisation of the suggestion, he (the cludrman) and the secretary had both been elected members of the Parnell Borough Council. At the next municipal election, the brareh might see fit to select a full mnnicipa! ticket to the extent that at least some of the Parnell municipal leeway might In the -near future be recovered.

Election of Officers. —The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:— President, Mr J. B, Lundon; vice-presi-dent Mr W. Cliffe; secretary, Mr P. Pitt; fcreasm-er, Mr R. Stevenson; committee, Messrs Longhman, Slssons, Bonrke, Leonard, and Markey.

Ambulance Nnrse.—The meeting decided to approve Dr. Pnrdy's recommendation to the Hospital mid Charitable Aid Board, "That the medical officer at the hospital snpply a nurse for the amjfulanee. when snch is considered necessary by tie district health officer."

The Premier./—lt was decided to congratulate the Premier on his safe return to New Zealand and convey the Federation's approval of the colony's proposed designation of "dominion." Letters of sympathy ■were authorised to the Hon. W. Hall-Jones arsd tne relatives of the late Sir John JBTall.

C.E.M- SOCIETY

A meeting of the St Matthew's branch of the above society was held in the parish hull last evening, the Rev. W. E. GUlam presiding. An able paper on "The Relation of the Clnrreh to Labour" was read by Mr Moncrieff. A prolonged discussion

followed, dnring which most of the speakers attacked the leaders of the Church for apathy in matters of social reform. Mr J. R. Salt haTins resigned the secretaryship through stress of work, Mr F. Jenkins was appointed in his stead. The members decided to co-operate with the All Saints' branch during the winter months-
