ACTION BY LOCAL WORKERS.

The Auckland Operative Bootmakers' Union at a meeting held last night passed the following resolution, copies of which will be forwarded to Messrs. Fowlds, Kidd, Baume, Lawry and Poole, M.H.R.'s: "That the Government be respectfully requested to pass an Act this session making manufacturers and sellers in New Zealand responsible to any Court of Justice who otfer for sale or sell boots and shoes made with "paper, cardboard or other adulterations." Samples of imported boots were shown in proof of the allegations made. The question of manufacturers being .unable to cope with orders was discussed, and it was stated that men in two departments were walking about, and that the union had assisted men to proceed to Australia.

With regard to the Boot Combine, members expressed the opinion that the nationalisation of the industry would be the most effective remedy.
