At EI listen, South Australia, on Monday last, a warrant was issued on Friday for the apprehension of Edwin Winetanley for the . abduction of Fanny 'Cook, aged eighteen, stepdaughter of his brother, Fredk. Winstanley, of Doyle's Well. It is alleged that he forcibly took tie girl away under arms during the absence of her parents. Fredk. Winstanley had been searching the neighbourhood -for several days. The tracks of a man -were discernible leading from the house, but could not be traced far. Mourtted Constable O'Brien, with two black trackers, left Elliston on Saturday night for' Doyle's Well. Edwin Winstanley and the' girl were seen in the vicinity of Venus Bay by George North, of Collie, whilst passing on a bicycle. Edwin Winstanley is supposed to be "peculiar at times." The girl's parents are greatly ■ distressed over her abduction. During the absence of Fredk. Winstaoley and his wife at Elliston, where they had gone to obtain a warrant, Edwin Winstanley entered Fredk. Winstanley"s house, taking away, the girl's clothes, also flour, tea, sugar, and meat, disappearing again into the scrub.
It is said by the girl's two sisters, aged fourteen and sixteen, that she went away crying, and that Winstanley said 3ws would shoot her if she did not go.
