MOUNT ROSKILL CONGREGATIONAL SCHOOLROOM.

The foundation stone of the new Congregational schoolroom at Mount KosHU was laid on Saturday afternoon by jlr S W. Smecton. Despite the tempestuoas weather prevailing, there was a good muster of residents to witness the ceremony, many of the veterans from the adjacentHomealso beingpresent. The actual eeremcny was brief, the rain immediately necessitating an adjournment to the district school, where most of the afternoon ■was spent- A collection was taken up in aid of the building fund, and £13 15/5 w as realised, including a donation of £1 5/6 from the inmate of the Veterans' Home. In the school-house brief addresses were given by the Revs W. Day (chairman), J. Wilkins, J. M. Stoops and S. Griffiths and Mr Lyons, congratulating the district on its enterprise and enthusiasm in the cause, and wishing the church every success. Services in connection with the Congregational Church were first held at Mount Roskill in August last, when a Sunday-afternoon service was inaugurated. The following month, the service ■sras altered to Sunday evening, the average attendance on these occasions being about forty. A Sunday school was also started, with an average attendance of about 45. The huiWing of a schoolroom, which could be used as a church, until funds admitted of a more costly edifice, was shortly afterwards projected, the site being aenerously donated by a friend of tne church. Various ether contributions liave been made to the building fund, but the smn of £100 is still required to make up the balance of the £330, which repregents the total cost of site and building. It is reckoned that the building will be finished in about two months time. It be the first erected in the Mount Boskill district for purely religious puiposes, and the residents are justly proud of the fact. It occupies a :'ar site near the junction of the. Mount Eden and Jlonnt Albert and Onehunga roads, and shottld possess a fine appearance when 'completed.
