Many Tnames people will learn with deep resret of the death of Mr. Arthur Bayiier,~fourth son of the late Mr. Alfred Eayner, engineer of Thames, which took llace at his residence, Waihi. to-day. The quarterly meeting of the Upper Koines Methodist Church revealid a very iealthy condition of affairs, spiritually throDghout the circuit, bnt the financial side siowed a deficit of abont £50 on the circuit debt. The increase of debt during the quarter was attributed to the heavy removal expenses of ministers, and also . to wet Sundays affecting the collections. Mr. Scott, Home Missionary- at Morrinsville, having resigned, it was decided to invite Mr. Bridge to fill the vacancy, it was also agreed not to ask for an additional agent as agreed at a previous quarterly meeting. The Home and Foreign Mission Fund accounts in connection with the circuit were reported to be in a very satisfactory etate. and the circuit had been enabled to afford a good deal of practical help towards those two causes. The work generally was regarded as very enconrajint. The ■Rev. Dukes" presided, and the meeting extended a hearty welcome to the Rev. Newbold, now stationed at Waihi. WAIHI, this day. Accident pay for the Miners' Union during the past fortnight amounted to £32 10/, and the general expenses in connection, with the Union totalled £23 5/1. A man named Patrick Sullivan, alias . Holland, from Antkland, against whom there were fifty-three convictions for various offences, were brought up at the Waihi Polict Court to-day, and sentenced to 48 hours' imprisonment for drunkenness, and two months in Mt. Eden gaol for vagrancy. Evidence was given that he had been begging.

At a meeting of the Waihi United Friendly Societies' Hospital Conference last night, Bro. Waddell was elected vice-presi-dent in place of Bro. Daly, resigned. It •was also decided to liold comic, sports in November.
