YoTrthful Thieves—Three youths, Albert Homan, alias Eicbard Smith Wilb«n Ward, and Alf. John Peigan, were charged with the theft of two overcoats Homan further charged with Bteatog a brief bag, and Ward -£as accused of stealing a gold band ring. Chief-Detective Marsack prosecuted, and Mr Hackett appeared for Homan and Ward, Pennalligan being represented by Mr Lundon. Homan pleaded guilty and was convicted on the first charge and adnutted to probation, subject to the approval of the probation officer. On the other charges he was convicted, and ordered to come up for sentence when called upon. In the case of Pennalligan, Mr Lundon suggested that the father's bond be taken for the good behaviour of the accused. The case in question -was really the loss of two overcoats at a euchre party, one boy having them passed out of a window to him by the other boys. The Bench decided to fine Pennalligan £3, with the proviso that he must report himself weekly to the police until it wore paid. Ward admitted the theft of the overcoats, but denied stealing tne ring. It was admitted that be took the ring from a girl's finger and afterwards pawned it, but he contended that it was quite the custom, for fellows to obtain rings in this fashion from girls. The Bench ordered him 14 days' imprisonment for this offence, while on the other charge he was convicted and ordered to come up when called upon.
