THE TOBACCO TRUST.
Important Government Proposal.
LONDON, July 11
The " Daily Telegraph's" New York -correspondent statee that the Government is asking for an injunction T.e* straining the corporations composing the Tobacco Trust from operating as a combination in restraint of trade between the States. The Government makes each of the Trust's sixty-four subsidiary corporations defendants. The British and American Tobacco Company is also included.
President Roosevelt's proposal to ask for the appointment of receivers to the Tobacco Trust and other corporations is severely criticised by the Press as being tantamount to the adoption of Government ownership.
