' ■ .. ;, . .WAIHI, Thursday; ■' At the ■ last meeting of the Borough Council deputations were appointed to visit ..Wellington in connection with the river silting, which is now a. burning question in the Paeroa district. With a view to obtaining further information, Mr T. Gilmbor (Mayor), Mr D. W. McArthur (bororigh engineer), Mr H. D. Morpeth (town clerk), and Cγ. Donaldson, left by the train, for Paeroa this morning on or couple of days' investigation. Upon arrival at Paeroa' ~a steam launch was commissioned, and the 1 party travelled up the Waihou river.to a. point where the river overflows at a time of flood, one stream from which finds :Its way down to the Netherton lands. .The river between Paeroa and Thames will also be inspected, and complete data obtained as to whether the river is silting up to the extent alleged, so that the deputation.pror ceeding to Wellington will be fully armed with reliable information on the subject. An inspection parade of the Ohinemurt Rifles No. 3 Co., and the Waihi -Rifles,: took, place in the Drill Shed laet night, ■ Colonel Wolffe, O.C. District, being the inspecting officer. Captain Hubbard. Adjutant No. 2 Battalion, acted as staff officer, Major Kenrick, of No. 2 Battalion, and SergtMajor McDonnel, drill instructor, ? also being present on parade. A good deah of work was gone through' during the evening, the officers and non-com, officers beiug tested in the various branches of drill. At the close of the parade the inspecting, officer spoke a few words of advice and encouragement to the men. Col. Wolffe left by the train this morning, and inspects the Paeroa Co. to-nisht. " . : ■
