"MARTITANA."

There was another crowded audience at the Opera Hou3e last night to witness the third production of the opera "Maritana" by the St. Patrick's Operatic Society. Miss Kosina Buekmann, who played the part of "Maritana" on the two previous nights, stoo4 down last night, and the role was taken by Miss L. Knight, whose acting on the whole was of a high order, and her music generally was sung with taste and refinement.. ■ She established herself in favour with the audience in the opening number, and during the evening received may floral tributes. Her acting was more effective in the animated and imsituations, in which she was better suited than in the parts calling for lighter emotions. She made the mostof the finale in the second act, "I Will Be Free," which was sung and acted with .animation, and the supports seemed to imbibe some of the enthusiasm which she put into the part. Miss Knight was also heard to advantage in "Fairy Wand/ "It Was Night," "The Harp in the Air," and "Scenes That Are Brightest." A double encore was given for the duet "Sainted Mother," which she sang with her sister, Miss Madeline Knight (Lazarillo). In the soprano solo parts of "Oh, Maritana" and "Oh, My .Husband" she was not so well suited. To-night the opera will be repeated, when Miss Rosina Buekmann will again take the part of "Maritana." A ma-thiee .performance, to be held to-morrow afternoon, wiircbnclude the season, which has so far been phenomenally successful.
