TRADES AND LABOUR COUNCIL
The Trades and Labour Council met last night, the president (Mr. H. W. Brookes) being in the chair.
Devonport Morgue.—A reply was received from the Devonport Borough Council in answer to a letter from the Council urging the borough to erect a morgue, stating that tie matter was under consideration, and that the Mayor was to attend the next meeting of the Harbour Board in order to arrange for a suitable sate.—Received.
* The Septicaemic Fatalities.—A fetter was received from the Women's Political League asking the Council to unite with that Society in requesting the Minister for Pu-blic Health to order an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the death of the late Miss McMillan. The secretary stated that the Council itself had already had au answer from Mr. Fowlds in response to a communication along similar lines, the Minister having expressed regret at Miss McMillan's death, and given his assurances that such an unfortunate occurrence as had been associated with her case should not take place again. It was decided to forward this reply to the League.
Land Bin.—Mr. F. W. King addressed the meeting on the Government's Land BUI, approving the provisions of the hill generally, and sympathising with its objects, but contending that it did not go far enough. He, as a single taier, considered that unless the bill dealt with the taxation of land values, it was incomplete. At the conclusion of the address some discussion took place, after which a voce of thanks was accorded the speaker.
