A FAMOUS PHYSICIAN.
Death, of Sir William Broadbe__t. (Received 5.29 ajn.). LONDON, July 10. The death was announced in London to-day of Sir William Henry Broadb-ent, Bart., X.C.V.0., M.P., F.R.S., Physicianto the King and the Prince of Wales. [Sir William Broadbent, one of the most eminent of contemporary physl- , cians, was born in _ oncsnire 72 years ago last January. He was educated at Huddersfield' College, at Owen's College, Manchester, and in Paris. After qualifying in medicine, he was physician sue- : cessively to the Western General Dis- [ pensary; to the London Fever Hospital; ! and to St. Mary's Hospital. He was ' president of the Harvojan Society of London; of the Medical Society of London, 1881; of the Clinical Society, 1837----88; and of the Neurological Society, 1895-96. He was Censor of the Royal College of Physicians from ISBB to 1389, and again from 1895 to 1896; and was Physician Extraordinary to Queen Victoria from IS9B until Her Majesty's death. He was appointed Physician-in-Ordinary shortly after the King's accession, and' at the time of -his death was consulting physician to St. Mary's Hospital, Paddington, and various other hospitals. Sir William Broadbent's name has been familiar in the signature of bulletins of royal illnesses for many years past, and the famous physician's word was especially anxiously awaited during the tension of 1901. He was also in attendance as physician when Sir Frederick Treves operated on King Edward for appendicitis.]
