SOUTH AFRICAN DEFENCES.
Scheme of Permanent Farces.
CAPETOWN, July 9
The Inter-Colonial Defence Commission recommends a combined scheme by Cape Colony and the Transvaal to maintain 1000 men each, the Orange River Colony and Natal 500 each, and Rhodesia 200. In the event of war. or a disturbance in any colony, such colony wouhi be entitled to re<rnisition from the others such forces as were not required by them.
The report further recommends the formation of permanently paid forces, liable to service anywhere in the Empire.
