A DEADLY CHASM.

TWO KILLED IN A DAY. SHOCKING TRAGEDIES IN BLUE MOUNTAINS. (By Cable.—Press Afisodatlon.—Copyright.) SYDNEY, July 8. A party of visitors at Katoomba, the popular holiday resort on the Blue Mountains, paid a -visit yesterday to view the wonderfully beautiful sight of the falls and cascades in a frozen state. % One of the party, a boy named Lannen, thirteen years of age, started to cross a piece of ice about 20ft square, 'and on the way he slipped and fell, shrieking, over the edge into the chasm, 200 ft below, being dashed to death in an instant. A precisely similar fatality occurred at the same spot this morning. A young woman named 'McCariney, in company with" other sightseers, went out to view the falls, and it is surmised that the girl went to see the spot where the lad fell, and began to slip on the same body of ice. Every effort she made to regain her footing was unavailing, although a bystander clutched at the girl's clothes, and made an effort to save her. She disappeared over the brink of the deep perpendicular gully, and was hurled to death. Both bodies were shockingly mutilated.
