Burns) presided last night at the fortnighrlj- meeting of the Thames Borough Council. . \ Water Charge.—A protest was received from the manager of the Sanford Freezing Works in connection with the water rhurges. I Cold Duty.—A notification was received from the Colonial Treasurer that £917 16/6 had been paid into tbe district fund account, being the proportion of gold duty on gold exported for the quarter. Sauttarv Matters.—lt was decided, at the suggestion of the district health officer (Dr. Purdj) to notify the owners of a number of insanitary and dilapidated buildings to put them into repair as soon as possible. A number of other matters in connection with sanitation it was decided to carry through at the earliest opportunity. Abattoir Site.—The Council considered tie sum asked (£2500) for five acres on which the present abattoirs stood, to be excessive, and it was decided £o call for public offers for a suitable site at Parawai, returnable at nest meeting.
