A STORMY VOYAGE.
The steamer Manapouri, which arrived from the Eastern Pacific Island this morning, had a rough passage on her way down from Auckland to Barotonga lastmonth. On May 16 she encountered a severe southerly gale, which raised a heavy sea. The gale lasted for three days and did some damage to the deck fittings. The companion ladder carried on the side of the vessel was washed away, one of the boats was stove in, and a portion of the deck railing was broken and twisted about, while three cattle died.
The warship Torch, bound from Fiji to the Eastern Pacific Islands, also encountered the gale and was hove-to while it lasted. The Torch arrived at Rarotonga on May 20, one day before the Manapouri, and left on the 21st for Tahiti and ___<______ Island.
