FRIENDSHIP FOR ENGLAND.
King Carlos has frequently goue out of bis way to show his desire to strengthen the historic bonds between England and Portugal, and by his visits to- Ijohdon in 1002 anrT V 904, as well as in the cordiality shown by him to King Edward on the occasion of His Majesty's last visit to Portugal (a cordiality reciprocated in speeches expressive of warm regard on the part of Great Britain) he has shown a keen desire to incn-ease the mutual sympathy of the two countries.
