KING AND MIS QUEEN.
The Queen referred to is Marie Amelie, ' daughter of the Comte de Paris. She married JfSng Carlos in May, ISB6. The King himself has long had to face a large proportion of disloyal subjects, and has endeavoured in several ways to conquer popular aversion. j For instance, during the financial difficulties of 1892 the King and the Royal Family renounced 20 per cent of the en- j dowments paid them by the nation, a i sacrifice of £23,000 a year.
