SAILORS' HOME. The Council of the Sailors' Home, met on Friday. Those present were Messrs H. Peake (President), T. Harie Giles, T. Gresham, E. Phipps, and Dr. King. The president welcomed Dr. King" as a new member of the Council. Missions.—3lr. Peake reported satisfactory work by the missions, which were attended by large numbers of men. Under present conditions, however, they could not open the hull every evening, though Jie had been asked several times if this could~not be done. Later on. he hoped that they would be able to arrange for someone connected with the Mission to be at the hall, inightly. Accounts.—The number of boarders- for the past month was shown at 48, as against 46.5 for the previous month. Accounts amounting to £158 were passed for payment. Subscriptions for Furnishing.—Mr. Peake mentioned that on Monday nest be Intended to make a canvass for subscriptions towards the fund for furnishing the home and providing a billiard table for the use of the imitates. It was then decided, on the motion of Mr. Gresham, that a complete canvass should be made, and that subscription lists be opened by the members of the Council, secretary and manager. NEWMARKET LIBERAL AND LABOUR FEDERATION. i A social evening was held by. the Newmarket Branch of the Liberal and Labour Federation in the Newmarket Public Hall on Friday. Mr 3. S. Dickson. president, occupied the chair, and there was a large attendance. An interesting programme of musical items, interspersed by toasts, was submitted, the following being the items:— ' piano solo, Mr Morgan; songs, Mr Hockey, Chas. Hannigan, J. Caston. P. Howell, Harris, Rogers: recitation, Mr Oliver Mason; phonographic selection. Mr C. Brown. The following toasts were • honoured: "The King," "The Federation," "The Governmenti" "The Premier's Success in his Visit Home," "The Visitors," "The Newmarket Branch," and "The Committee."
