AMUSEMENTS.

THE OPERA HOUSE.

FuUer's Minstrel and Vaudeville Company presented their customary weekly change of programme at the Opera House on Saturday night. The entertainment was bright and novel, and the audience large arid extremely appreciative. In the first part Miss Annie Cavendar made her first appearance in Auckland as & serio and dancer, and proved herself an artist of more than ordinary merit. The song and dance were also furnished with, success by Misses May Wallace, Ruby Maxwell, and Lucy Roberts. Miss Lorraine Tansley and Mr. E. W. Gollmich sang with, taste and expression in some well-known old songs. Messrs. H. Linden, Joe Woodward, and Sam Wilson proved themselves equal to the task of amusing their audience. Considerable interest was centred in the performance of Miss Rhoda Dendron, who was billed as "the barefoot, international and character dancer." Her teriseliorean abilities, combined with agility, elaborate costumes, and effective stage setting, produced a result pleasing, novel, and highly meritorious. The Melbourne Meistersingers gave a semi-martial performance, introducing such appropriate numbers as "The Soldiers' Chorus" (Faust), "The Bugle Calls Away, "The Battle. Eve," "The Soldier's Farewell" Miss Ida Berridge -was very popular, and had to contribute several cleverly rendered items. An amusing comedy sketch was given by Armstrong and Verne, into which some rather good comic songs were introduced with gratifying result. Miss Pearl Livingstone, a comedienne and ancer, had to contribute a lengthy series of songs. A turn presenting some novel and interesting features was that of Lieut. MaeDonald, an exceptionally accurate rifle shot. With unerring aim he succeeded in smashing small white globes, the rifle being sighted from a number of unorthodox positions. His assistant, whjo is an acrobat of no mean order, held globes between the fingers of his hand and balanced on his head, the targets being picked off by the "Lieutenant," who, in one instance, was handicapped by having arms and legs tied. As a fitting climax a rifle attached to a tripod was sighted on to a pendant ball which hung at exactly MaeDonald'a height from the floor. Taking his stand immediately beneath the ball, which just touched his head, MaeDonald, with a bullet from a second rifle, struck the trigger of the one attached to the tripoS, the bullet, from this second shot, shattering the hanging ball. An "e:iibrtion of moving pictures was included in the entertainment, which, will |be produced again this evening and throughout the week.

HIS MAJESTY'S THEATRE.

Edison's Pictures at His Majesty's Theatre proved a strong source oi attraction on Saturday night, when a mosfe enjoyable series of pictures was shown. A gift matinee was ield in the -aiternpon, when a picture was shown on ■the screen and all the children in the stalls and dress circle, had an opportunity of competing by suggesting a suitable title ior the picture. Master Coliri Pierce, of Remuera, proved the ■winner. A similar contest takes place on Saturday next. A complete change of programme will be given this evening, when some very interesting films are promised. Little Miss Bessie Sutton will contibute new songs and dances.
