HUNTLY NEWS.
(From Onr Own Correspondent) HUNTLY, this day. News has been received to the effect that, under the auspices of the Auckland Technical School, classes in millinery will be established in the mining township as soon as a suitable room or hall can he procured. The secretary of the Huntly Public Library, Mr J. R. Martin, _as been informed that the subsidy assigned to the local library under the Public Libraries Actamounts this year to £7 S/. This is a. little less thau the subsidy granted last year." Owing to the wet night and the number of the members of the corps who have recently left the district, the first parade of the new volunteer year was a smajl one. Staff Sergeant-Major Macdonzell was present and did two good hours in squad drill. A novel shooting competition, the first prize for which is a fine deer's head, shot, dressed, and presented to the company by Mr J. Holmes, of Puke_tiro, it was intimated, would take place on the first Saturday in April. Two recruits were added to the strength of the company.
