CHRISTCHURCH, this day.
The Premier yesterday entertained a number of the visiting Commissioners at luncheon in the Exhibition Buildings, and expressed a hope that the bonds of sympathy between the various countries would be strengthened, and that commercial relations would be improved as the result of the Exhibition.
The attendance yesterday went up to within twelve of * fifteen 'thousand. It was a free day to the art gallery and a free concert was given in the evening. Pictures to the value of £4655 19/ have been sold up to the present time. The following are the pictures sold: — Sydney art gallery: " Queen Victoria's Jubilee procession" (George C. •Haite), £850; "Smugglers" (C. Napier Henry), £945; "A Turkish Bath" (T. Williams), £100; "A Gipsy Fortuneteller" (E. Bundy), £105; "The King's Rival" (J. S. Lucas), £130; " Pcro By, Corsica" (J. L, Pickering), £G0; "The "Valley of the Dart (W. E. Walker), £70; "The Quay, St. Tropez" (T. Williams), £40; "Venetian Fruit Stall" (G. C. Haite), £250; "April" (Gertrude D. Hammond), £15 15/; " Tlie Castellan" (E. J. Gregory),. £_>02; "The Mill Pool" (Sir E.-A. Witerlow), £250; "Between the Paces, Henley" (F. Craig), £24; "Starting for the' Fishing" (W. Hatherell), £30; "Motherhood" (Margaret Kemp Welch), £4 4/; total £3135 19/.
Canterbury Art Society": "Sunlight through the Lanes " (Lucy Kemp Welch) £250; "Psyche" (S. J. Solomon), £440; "Doubts" (Henrietta Rae), £315; '•'Teresina" (Lord Leighton), £100; total £1105.
"In Shelter,'' by A. Wallan (£100), and "The Houses of Parliament, Westminster," by W. M. Hale (£105), have also been sold, the latter to Sir John Hall. This brings the total value of the pictures sold up to £4655.
