NAVY LEAGUE AND RECRUITS.

(By Telegraph.—Own Correspondent.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The president of the local branch of the Navy League has outlined a scheme for putting each year any surplus to be used in introducing boys of good character and physique into the Navy or merchant services. Many boys who would like to go to sea are deterred by not being able to procure a "kit." The League is keeping in view the establishment of a training ship on land, like that at Liverpool. At this school boys are trained in seamanship, signalling and gunnery. Two years of such training fit a boy for service, and £5 will purchase a kit. Notice has been given to move in accordance with the suggestion. »
