SAILORS' HOME COUNCIL

The Council of the Auckland Sailors' Home met last evening, Mr H. Peake presiding. Mission to Sailors.—Bishop Xeligan and the Hon. El Mitcheison forwardedVi joint letter offering, to relieve the council of ihe expense in. connection with the evangelistic and social work of the Home. The letter stated that the writers were glad to be able to state that the Missions to Seamen had empowered them to undertake work in connection •with that society in the port of Auckr land. If the council would allow them the entire control and management of the Mission Hall, they were prepared to undertake all expenses connected with it being used by the Missions to Seamen worker, for the effective prosecution of the objects specified in article 2 of the council's articles of association. They proposed having a committee to assist them in their work, and would be glad to welcome the president of the home for the time being to a seat on the committee. Should the council desire to confer with further, they would endeavour to "meet the council's convenience as to time and place for such conference. The. chairman said it was a matter the council should consider carefully. They were constituted differentiy to most institutions of this kind, and he questioned whether they had the power to relegate the management of the hall to other than a -committee appointed from the -council. He moved, "That a special meeting of the council he held on the 2"th inst., to deal with the question."' This was carried.

Finance: Accounts amounting to £217 were passed for payment. The debit balance, it was reported, was £204. The receipts from boarders during the month amounted to £163. The daily average attendance of boarders for the month wks 38.3.
